Hunt In Dark Over Playing At Lucas Moripe Stadium

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt doesn’t know what is going to happen with them playing games at their home venue – Lucas Moripe Stadium.

This after Sundowns footed the bill to fix the venue that was banned by the PSL sometime last season due to many leaks and the dressing rooms not up to standards.

But Sundowns, according to coach Rulani Mokwena, went out of their way to fix the venue and it is why they played their home fixtures against Kaizer Chiefs and Moroka Swallows at the venue, although the pitch was visibly brown in some areas.

SuperSport, meanwhile, played their opening league match against Richards Bay at Peter Mokaba Stadium last weekend, where they won 2-0 and Hunt lamented that it was not ideal because they had to spend three days together unlike when they are playing at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

On Sunday, instead of the game being played at Lucas Moripe Stadium, SuperSport will play at Peter Mokaba Stadium once more – the MTN8 quarter-final against Stellenbosch FC.

Hunt was asked by iDiski Times, if SuperSport will now pay Sundowns since their cross city rivals footed the bill to fix the venue, but he said he has no clue what is happening.

“We paid [to play] in that stadium all the years and I don’t know what has been done but it’s…. yeah,” said Hunt, who refused to comment further.

Having a settled venue is a crucial point for Hunt as they were the only club that did not suffer a home loss last term, despite being “gypsies” – having no home venue for the large part of the season.

SuperSport, having brushed aside Richards, struggled to do the same against AmaZulu at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Wednesday, with the game ending in a goalless draw.

They played over 50 minutes with numerical advantage after Thembela Sikhakhane was sent off for stamping on the exciting winger Shandre Campbel and the referee did not hesitate to flash a red card.

But while SuperSport found things tough to break down Usuthu, Hunt has no doubt his side will get better as the season goes and his track record proves that.

“We do things a little differently and we genuinely finish well and get better as the season goes, any team that I have ever coached, things like that,” Hunt replied to this publication.

“We will get better, for various reasons. You don’t want to be flying now but yes we are strong and the kids are on big weight training programs, so that will make them strong, those types of things.

“We do take time, normally, to come [right] and you know. You can just see the [almost] 1,000 games you will see.”
