Hunt Flabbergasted By Gabuza Miss

SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt was lost for words when asked about Thamsanqa Gabuza’s missed opportunity against Orlando Pirates.

United had the chance to secure a smash and grab with late substitute Gabuza being teed up by Aubrey Ngoma in the dying stages but he fluffed his effort which could his secured three points against their former side.

However, it remained goalless, with Matstsansa finishing the game without a single shot on target and winless after four rounds of fixtures. While Hunt was delighted with their efforts and their ability to stifle Pirates at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium – he struggled to put into words how he felt about the Gabuza effort.

“You can’t really say anything you know… I’d like to say a lot but I can’t they’ll hang me,” Hunt said in the post-match press conference.

“But you can’t say anything you know. I just wipe my eyes, that’s all I did, I thought I was seeing things. I don’t know how to answer.

“I think I’ll take 100 balls [at training] and just tap them in, maybe we’ll do that but you can’t you just [can’t].”

On the game itself, Hunt felt they probably forged chances to have won the game and while he’s admitted they need to beef up their squad soon, he was pleased for the young talents who performed on the day.

“We had to suffer without the ball but we still had the best chances, if you look at the game, the header in the first minute and the one late in the game, I think we did well with what we got, we stood our ground,” he said about the game itself,” he said.

“I think they got behind us once in the whole game. You have to be proud of our young players, Thapelo on the left-hand side, who’s 18 – the boys in midfield did well, so ya, we move forward.”

The three-time league winners travel to KZN to face high-flying Richards Bay on Wednesday before their MTN8 opener against Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday afternoon at Loftus Versveld.
