Ime Okon and Khulumani Ndamane started together for Bafana Bafan at centre-back and showed composure for large parts of the game.

It was a particularly important outing for Okon, who was making his first appearance under Broos.

BAFANA BAFANA DEFENCE SHOW PROMISE

“The whole team played a very good game, including Ndamane and Okon – with Ndamane he’s played a few. But for Okon it was his first [under me]. I think both players in central defence are good,” Broos said.

“Ndamane has several very good passes in the second half. He put players nearly alone in front of goal, and this is something I wanted to see.”

Broos highlighted Ndamane’s ability to build from the back as a key positive.

DEFENSIVE OPTIONS GROW FOR SOUTH AFRICA

“I wanted to see Ndamane determined, concentrated and focused on the game and he showed he can do that, I’m very happy.”

With injuries to Siyabonga Ngezana and Rushwin Dortley, these performances come at an important time.

It gives Broos more options as the team prepares for upcoming competitions.

The two nations will meet again in their second friendly clash, set to be played in Cape Town. The match will take place at the DHL Stadium on Tuesday, 31 March.
