South Africa head coach Hugo Broos has unveiled a 32-player preliminary squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026.

This selection marks a historic milestone for Bafana Bafana, who are set to compete on football’s grandest stage for the first time since they hosted the tournament in 2010.

The provisional squad features several high-profile figures, including inspirational captain and goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, dynamic midfielder Teboho Mokoena, and Burnley striker Lyle Foster.

The selection highlights the strength of South Africa’s domestic league, with champions Mamelodi Sundowns and rivals Orlando Pirates each contributing nine players to the setup, including exciting Pirates forward Oswin Appollis.

Broos will have to whittle his current selection down to a final 26 man squad before FIFA’s official submission deadline on 27 May.

The final group will face a challenging Group A campaign, starting with a highly anticipated opening match against co-hosts Mexico in Mexico City a repeat of the memorable 2010 tournament curtain-raiser.

Following their opener in the capital, Bafana Bafana will travel to Atlanta to face Czechia on 18 June.

They will then conclude their group stage fixtures against Korea Republic in Monterrey on 24 June, aiming to secure a place in the knockout rounds.
