Hugh Jackman is set to return as the beloved host of the 2025 Global Citizen Festival in New York City. This marks his 11th consecutive year leading this star-studded event.

Taking place on 27 September in Central Park, the festival will showcase an incredible line-up of global and African talent, including South Africa’s Tyla and Nigeria’s Ayra Starr.

TYLA AND AYRA STARR TO HEADLINE GLOBAL CITIZEN

It promises an electrifying line-up that features Tyla, Ayra Starr, global icons The Weeknd and Shakira, and American singer Mariah the Scientist.

Renowned actor and Global Citizen Ambassador Hugh Jackman will host the event for the eleventh consecutive year, according to Cape Town ETC

Since her Grammy-winning global hit Water, Tyla has continued to push African music to unprecedented international heights.

Ayra Starr impresses audiences with her vibrant sound and bold style, earning recognition as one of Nigeria’s brightest young talents.

AFRICA’S RISING INFLUENCE

Their inclusion highlights Africa’s rising influence on the global music scene, making it a proud moment for the continent.

Shakira expressed her excitement, saying, “I’m honoured to headline the incredible Global Citizen Festival in Central Park this September.

Music has always been my way of connecting with people and leaving a mark on the world. I can’t wait to perform, unite, and inspire action”.

HUGH JACKMAN TO HOST GLOBAL CITIZEN

Hugh Jackman added, “The 2025 Global Citizen Festival marks my 11th year as host, and I’m thrilled by the progress we’ve made.

The growing impact of the Global Citizen movement touches every corner of the world. I’m eager to advocate alongside fellow ambassadors and performers to leave the world better than we found it”.

This year’s festival campaign places a strong focus on Africa, aiming to provide energy access for one million people across the continent.

It also supports quality education and football for 30,000 children worldwide in partnership with FIFA.

HOW TO GET THE TICKETS

Another major goal is to mobilise approximately R3.8 billion (USD 200 million) to protect 30 million hectares of the Amazon rainforest.

You can rewrite the sentences in active voice as follows:

“Attendees earn free tickets for the Global Citizen Festival by engaging in social action on the Global Citizen app or website.

This process ensures the participants actively support the causes celebrated at the event.”

AFRICAN TALENT ON THE GLOBAL STAGE

For South Africans, Tyla’s presence cements the country’s growing cultural influence on the world stage. This follows last year’s involvement of South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha as host.

With South African and Nigerian stars sharing a platform alongside international icons, the 2025 Global Citizen Festival is a powerful celebration of African talent.

It’s a call to global action on pressing environmental and social issues.

It offers a thrilling opportunity to witness their fellow countrywoman Tyla lead from the front as Africa’s voice in New York this September.
