How the ten Zimbabweans remaining in the PSL have fared

After nine matches, Chippa United defender Ronald Pfumbidzai has emerged as the exceptional Zimbabwean player in the 2022/23 Dstv premiership season.

Ten Zimbabweans remained in the DStv Premiership following a massive purging of players before the start of the current campaign.

The likes of Farai Madhanhanga, Talent Chawapiwa, Evans Rusike and Blessing Sarupinda, among others, were released by different clubs.

And among those that survived the guillotine, Pfumbidzai has been a cut above the rest with some sterling performances for Chippa United.

The 27-year-old has been consistent with two goals to his name so far and is four behind leading scorer Peter Shalulile of Mamelodi Sundowns.

SuperSport captain and left-back Onismor Bhasera has also been decent, with one goal to his name.

The 36-year-old has been thriving well under the tutelage of Gavin Hunt.

Goalkeeper George Chigova has also enjoyed some game time this season under Hunt.

The gangly shot-stopper had been playing second fiddle to Ronwen Williams, who crossed floors to Mamelodi Sundowns earlier this season.

Chigova has so far made four appearances for Matsatsantsa, where he has so far conceded twice.

This means the 32-year-old has managed to keep 2 clean sheets out of the 4 games he has played.

Another goalkeeper Washington Arubi has kept two clean sheets in the six matches he has played for Marumo Gallants.

The 37-year-old keeper has been breached 5 times in the 540 minutes he played.

Meanwhile, all the Zimbabwean strikers in the topflight are yet to get off the mark.

Knox Mutizwa has featured in all matches for Golden Arrows, but goals have remained elusive.

It has also been the same script for Khama Billiat at Kaizer Chiefs. The 32-year-old has played six matches but still has nothing to show off on his goal tally.

Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane however, retains faith in the former Mamelodi Sundowns Starman, who has also been affected by injury.

On the other hand Orlando Pirates forward Terrence Dzvukamanja remains sidelined due to injury.

Defender Divine Lunga has enjoyed reasonable game time since returning to Golden Arrows on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns. He has featured in seven matches for Abafana Bes’thende.

At Maritzburg United, Tawanda Macheke has featured in six matches but has no goal to his name.

AmaZulu defensive midfielder Butholezelwe Ncube has not enjoyed much game time under Brandon Truter.
