Richards Bay chairman Jomo Biyela has explained how his team has managed to keep up with the DStv Premiership big teams in their maiden season.
The KwaZulu-Natal side is enjoying a dream start to South Africa’s topflight as they are in second place on the log standings, a point behind champions and leaders Mamelodi Sundowns after 10 games.
And their incredible efforts and performances didn’t go unnoticed as Richards Bay have honoured in the KZN Sport Awards.
The Natal Rich Boys have had a particularly good 2022 as they were also crowned the 2020/21 winners of the Motsepe Foundation Championship, gaining promotion to the Premiership.
It is worth highlighting that Richards Bay are at the summit of the table on away record in the Premiership.
AWARD WINNERS
The remarkable run in the league and clinching the second-tier league has led to the team winning the 2022 KZN Sports Team of the Year award in Durban last weekend.
The club chairman Biyela says that working together and understanding each other’s strengths has helped the team achieve wonders in the early stages of the season.
He also hailed the excellent work ethic of Richards Bay’s coaches, Vasil Manousakis and Pitso Dladla.
“The secret behind the success of the team is our working relationship as a team, from the board to the players. We are united and have the same ambitions,” Biyela told Ukhozi FM.
“Our coaches as well are working very well together, they understand each other’s role, and it is very important for any team; if they can keep this, they can become the greatest coaches in the country.”
Biyela also gives an update on their stadium in Umhlathuze, as it is currently under construction, which has forced them to use King Zwelithini Stadium for the last 15 months.
“For now, we are focusing on playing in Durban; we will know when we moving to Richards Bay,” he said.
“But for now, we will continue playing in Umlazi; we urge them to keep supporting us”
