Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has given an update on the new faces he has brought into the national team setup since last year September.

After South Africa failed to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and 2022 AFCON tournament, Broos brought some new faces into the national team.

This was to rebuild and strengthen the team that can qualify for the 2023 AFCON competition. The tournament is due to be held in Ivory Coast in January next year.

The draw of the 2023 AFCON will be conducted on Thursday, 12 October 2023.

With that being said, his plan has produced fruitful results, as Bafana has already qualified for the AFCON tournament.

Broos was speaking ahead of their international friendly game with Nambia on Saturday, 9 September 2023.

The showdown will take place at Orlando Stadium, with the kick-off set for 15:00.

Some of the names that were into the national team setup are the likes of Mihlali Mayambela, Luke Le Roux, Bathusi Aubaas, Pule Mmodi, Kobamelo Kodisang, to mention a few.

HUGO BROOS’ UPDATE ON BAFANA NEW FACES PROGRESSION

“We have made big progress compared to one year ago. The mentality is totally different and that’s because of the players we have,” Broos told the SAFA media department.

“Those players know by now that they come to the national team and they are honoured to be here.

“And they are also hungry and want results because they want to go to AFCON. They know for a fact that for an African player is the most fantastic thing you can have to go to AFCON.”

Broos continued: “So, I saw it already from last year September when we started playing Mozambique and Sierra Leone. That was a different mentality and I’m happy with it.

“This is something very important. This is a team that if we could play again with Ghana now, that should be a different game than we played two years ago.”
