Kaizer Chiefs rejected an opportunity to sign one of the emerging talents at Stellenbosch FC, FARPost can reveal.
This is not the first time that Chiefs turn down an opportunity to sign a player. Amakhosi opted against signing Bafana Bafana midfielder Kamohelo Mokotjo.
Mokotjo returned to the DStv Premiership from Europe during the January transfer window. He ended up joining Sekhukhune United after a move to Naturena failed to materialise.
At the start of the 2022/23 season, Chiefs signed Siyethemba Sithebe, Yusuf Maart, George Matlou, Zitha Kwinika, Ashley Du Preez, Dillon Solomons, Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana, Edmilson Dove, Kamohelo Mahlatse and snapped up Christian Saile in January.
However, the signings they made are yet to transform the team, as they have had an inconsistent season.
Chiefs remain fourth on the league table with 44 points as they chase a second-place finish.
This publication has gathered that Chiefs turned down the offer to sign a Stellenbosch utility player.
KAIZER CHIEFS TURN DOWN THE OPPORTUNITY TO SIGN STELLENBOSCH YOUNGSTER
“Qobolwakhe Sibande is a very good player who’s still going to do big things in his career,” a source close to the player told FARPost.
“The boy was supposed to go to Portugal, but someone whispered something to him, and he ended up going to Stellenbosch.
“Even before the talks to Portugal started, Sibande was offered to Kaizer Chiefs, but they didn’t show interest.
“All I can say is we are yet to see the best of Sibande, had the move to Portugal been successful, a few years later, we were going to see him in top leagues like the Spanish La Liga,” added the source.
SIbande has dominantly played as a left-back at Stellies but is capable of playing in an advanced position. He has also played in midfield.
