SuperSport United midfielder Jamie Webber has revealed how coach Gavin Hunt helped the squad during the two weeks FIFA Break.
This helped them get back to winning ways on Tuesday as they defeated Royal AM 3-1 in the DStv Premiership. They followed that up with another 3-1 win over Sekhukhune on Friday.
Heading into the long break, the Tshwane side were low in spirits. They suffered a 2-1 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs after opening the scoring.
According to Webber, the team had the right attitude heading into the match. The positive result reflected that the players kept in mind what the coach was telling them during the break.
“It was our attitude, I feel like a coach during these two weeks [FIFA break] he [Gavin Hunt] always told us that if our attitude is not right, we won’t win,” Webber told PowerFM.
“He was pushing us for our attitude to be right, in friendlies and even in training. It was more of our attitude than anything else that helped us get through.
“Losing before FIFA break, it’s too long. The guys really wanted to fix it. He spoke to us about the attitude and said it’s easy to come back to winning ways from a loss, but it’s difficult to win again after a win.
“If our attitude is not right, like go big-headed into the game like it’s going to be easy, then we won’t win. Those were his exact words.
Webber further urged his teammates that they must try to be consistent always and build from their previous results
“So we have to try to become consistent, that’s what we’ve been working on [also],” Webber added.
Friday’s win saw them move to third place after amassing 17 points from a possible 30.
