Bafana Bafana star Bongokuhle Hlongwane has revealed how he deals with homesickness in the United States of America [USA].

The in-form Bafana player moved to the USA in January 2022 to join one of the Major League Soccer [MLS] sides on a three-year deal.

His consistent stellar performances have seen him called by Hugo Broos in the Bafana final squad set to face Liberia later this month for the AFCON qualifiers.

The Belgian mentor revealed his Bafana final 23-man squad last Thursday, 16 March 2023, from his initial 35-member preliminary squad.

South Africa will take on the West African side in a decisive two-legged tie, starting at home.

The first leg will take place at Orlando Stadium on Friday, 24 March 2023. The kick-off is set for 18:00.

Broos’ charges will then travel to Liberia for the second leg on Tuesday, 28 March 2023.

Bongokuhle Hlongwane, who won the Bell Banks Man of the Match accolade for the second straight week for his side Minnesota United, has revealed how he deals with homesickness.

“I then come back, shower and eat. After that, I get busy on my phone until I sleep again for the night.”

The 22-year-old footballer further stated how he is enjoying his stay in the USA.

“I’m really enjoying my stay, I don’t want to lie. For now, I would say everything is okay for me,” he explained.

“I have adjusted well, and I’m used to almost everything now.

“The other thing is that I’m getting game time. And I’m creating chances for the team to move forward and win games.”

The ex-Maritzburg United frontman will be hoping to continue with his fine at Minnesota when he returns from national duty.
