The University of Western Cape picked the biggest scalp so far in the Hollywoodbets Super League this season, becoming the first side to defeat Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies since the inception of the league.
UWC defeated the defending champions 2-0 at home, a result that saw the African champions drop to second spot on the log with 12 points in five matches after their first defeat in four years.
First place was taken by JVW who narrowly defeated City Lads 1-0 in the Eastern Cape. JVW have maintained their 100% record with 15 points while the Lads are bottom of the log with no point from five outings.
Three matches ended in draws this weekend. Bloemfontein Celtic were held to a 2-2 draw by Tsunami Queens at home, Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) were held to goalless draw by Thunderbirds Ladies in the capital city, while University of Johannesburg (UJ) and Richmond United drew 1-1.
The results mean Thunderbirds, UWC and UJ are in third, fourth and fifth place, respectively, on the standings, all tied on 10 points from the same number of games.
Celtic dropped to seventh spot on the log with nine points. Above Siwelele is Coal City Wizards who saw off Golden Ladies 6-1 in Mpumalanga and they are both locked on nine points.
Durban Ladies picked their first win of the season when they defeated First Touch Academy 2-1 at home. They are now in 13th position on the table with three points in four encounters while the Limpopo side are 10th with seven points from five matches.
On the Academy’s heels is their local rivals MaIndies Ladies who won 3-2 over Vasco Da Gama. The Giyani based outfit has amassed six points in five matches while Vasco are placed 12th with three points also from five games.
