On Monday, 1 May 2023, customers stood in long queues to stock up on the popular international PRIME Hydration at Checkers outlets across South Africa.
As the stock of the most sought-after sports drink, PRIME Hydration, runs low across the country, the drink has hit the black market.

PRIME DRINK HITS THE BLACK MARKET
TimesLive reports that people are reselling the drink on several online marketplaces, including Facebook and Twitter.
It seems as if the in-demand drink is now reselling at nearly six times its retail price.
The drink sold out in several Checkers stores across South Africa within hours last Monday.

No doubt the lower price caused the frenzy since Checkers stores sold it at R39.99 after it was priced between R400 to R800 by several selected retail stores.
Despite the drink gaining mixed reactions, people who managed to get more stock are reselling it online for up to R300 a bottle.

MOST PREFERRED FLAVOURS
However, flavours have also affected the pricing of the sports drink.
The Blue Raspberry flavour is in demand, and several people have listed it with a price tag of R250 a bottle.
The four available flavours are:
Blue Raspberry
Tropical Punch
Lemon Lime
Ice Pop
As the drink hits social media marketplaces, Takelot prices have slumped from R600 to around R90.
On the other hand, Prime Sticks are also starting to flood the market.
