“People and animals can get heat exhaustion, heat stroke, faintness, and dehydration.”
SAWS
The SAWS advised the public to hydrate frequently, wear cool clothing, avoid being in the sun for prolonged periods, and avoid strenuous outside work.
A WARNING FOR DAMAGING WINDS WAS ISSUED
A level 2 warning for damaging winds was issued for these areas on Friday:

M_Ngquza Hill / Mkambati
M_Port St Johns / Port St Johns
M_Nyandeni/King Sabata / Coffee Bay
M_Mbhashe / The Haven
M_Mnquma / Wavecrest
M_Great Kei / Kei River
M_Buffalo City / Buffalo City
M_Ndlambe / Port Alfred
“These winds are expected to persist for most of the day from tomorrow late afternoon and likely result in difficult driving conditions due to fallen trees on some coastal routes, difficulty in navigation for vessels at sea, as well as some disruptions to harbours and/or ports.”

It furthermore warned that difficulty in navigation is expected for vessels at sea.

THE PUBLIC WAS ADVISED TO STAY INDOORS IF POSSIBLE
The public was advised to stay indoors and away from the windows that open toward the severe winds.

“Be aware of the following: – sudden cross winds if traveling, especially between buildings, fallen trees or power lines, and flying debris.
“Small boats must stay away from the open sea and seek the shelter of a harbour, river estuary, or protected bay. Ensure that all temporary structures are well anchored.”

A WARNING FOR VELD FIRE CONDITIONS WAS ALSO ISSUED
Meanwhile, the SAWS also issued a warning for veld fire conditions in these areas:

The SAWS advised that fire teams are on standby.

“Conditions are such that the FDI index is above 75. Under these conditions, fires may develop and spread rapidly, resulting in damage to property and possible loss of human and/or animal life.”
