Former SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt shared a humorous story about his former striker, Mame Niang.
The Senegalese striker had numerous stints with PSL teams, but it was at Moroka Swallows where he truly made an impact. Standing nearly two meters tall, Niang made his PSL debut for Swallows in 2005.
Hunt recalled that the retired striker initially struggled to adapt. However, after going on a date and enjoying himself, he suddenly started scoring goals.
“I went to Dakar, and when I got there, it was 45 degrees Celsius. I watched this guy play on a sand field at that temperature, and he was heading the ball. I thought to myself, ‘If I bring this guy to South Africa, I’ll make a million.’ We brought him here, but he couldn’t speak English, which was a problem,” the coach told iDiski Dine.

“In his first game, second game, third game, and fourth game, he failed to score. My owner then said, ‘Ah, you signed this guy.’ I thought there was something wrong with Niang, but I knew what he needed; he needed punani (sex). I noticed a girl who was always talking to him, so I said to her, ‘Listen, do me a favor. This guy is new here; can you take him on a date?’ She agreed, and I gave her a couple of hundred rand,” Hunt explained.
The former SuperSport coach hinted Niang and the woman had sex and that helped the Senegalese striker find his feet.
“After that, Niang walked (into training) in confidently, smiling, and in the next game, he scored four goals. He was lighter on his feet, heading the ball like a pro, and ultimately became the league’s top goalscorer. The following season, we sold him to VfL Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga,” Gavin Hunt recalled while laughing.
The former United coach said he felt that Niang needed sex since he was in a foreign country. Ultimately, Hunt stated that he could not confirm if his former striker and the woman had sex after the date, but his actions implied they did.
