Gqeberha businessman Kelvin Naidoo, 51, who was kidnapped six days ago outside his workplace in Korsten, has been rescued.

Naidoo, vice-president of the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber and technical director at Auto X, was kidnapped on the morning of 19 July.

The incident happened shortly after 6am when a white Nissan NP200 crashed into Naidoo’s vehicle, forcing him to stop.

Another bakkie pulled up, and five armed men wearing balaclavas dragged him out of his Mercedes-Benz and into their bakkie before driving off.

Both the Nissan and Naidoo’s cars were left at the scene.

The Hawks rescued Naidoo in Gqeberha on Thursday, 25 July. He was found unharmed.

Hawks spokesperson Warrant Officer Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana could not confirm if the R10-million ransom demand was paid.

Further details on the Hawks’ investigation are expected to be released later.

NMB Business Chamber CEO Denise van Huyssteen said they are relieved that Naidoo has been returned home to his family.

“Our prayers and thoughts continue to be with him and his family, and we hope the healing may begin,” she said.
