Erling Haaland and Manchester City were held to a goalless draw at home to Inter Milan on a quiet Wednesday in the Uefa Champions League.
After 28 goals on the first Tuesday back, Wednesday’s matchday one action in Europe’s premier club competition heralded just 13 goals.
Shakhtar Donetsk’s trip to Bologna finished 0-0, just as Manchester City against Inter did.
Apart from scoring, the Citizens did absolutely everything they could to make for an entertaining affair at the Etihad. In what was a repeat of the 2022/23 final, the Italian giants, too, had their fair share of opportunities.
Ultimately, both sides will start their campaigns with one point instead of three, with City extending their unbeaten run to 24 matches in the competition.
Over in Paris, PSG had to wait until the final minute of the night to get the win over Girona, as Argentine keeper Paulo Gazzaniga erroneously fumbled a Nuno Mendes cross into his own net.
Since the beginning of the 2012-13 campaign, the French giants have lost just one of their 37 home games in the group stages of the competition.
Elsewhere, Celtic thumped Slovan Bratislava 5-1 while Borussia Dortmund and Sparta Prague both picked up 3-0 wins over Club Bruges and Red Bull Salzburg respectively.
The action continues on Thursday with Atletico Madrid taking on Leipzig while Arsenal travel to Atlanta, Leverkusen face Feyenoord and Monaco host Barcelona.
