Arsenal’s trip to Manchester City featured records galore and even more talking points as last season’s Premier League champions and challengers played out a 2-2 draw.
It took just nine minutes for the goalmouth action to begin and throw an early spanner in the works of any plans Mikel Arteta had to hold out for a goalless draw at the Etihad.
And once the drama began, it would not relent until the final whistle was blown.
On the occasion of his 105th appearance for the club, Erling Haaland scored his 100th goal for Manchester City in all competitions, equalling Cristiano Ronaldo’s record to have done it the fastest.
13 minutes later, on his first appearance for the Gunners, Riccardo Calafiori became the 20th player to score on his first Premier League start for the club.
His goal was an absolute belter from range; and on the brink of half-tine, Gabriel would make it 2-1 to send shockwaves through the blue arena.
The joy would be short-lived, though, with Leandro Trossard seeing red to leave the visitors fending for themselves with just ten men, despite being a goal to the good.
The red card meant that star man Bukayo Saka was withdrawn at the break — as Areta, once again, took a more defensive approach.
City had 33 goal attempts and kept 78 percent of the possession; and in the 98th minute it all paid off, as Pep Guardiola’s troops got their latest ever goal scored on record in a Premier League match.
John Stones was the saviour, with his finish ensuring that the points were shared heading into gameweek six.
