Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe is accusing South Africans of being self-righteous.
He was referring to criticism of the Karpowership emergency procurement.
Mantashe says South Africa can’t be an ‘Island of Angels’ while slipping deeper into poverty.
He says the country moved from being the biggest economy on the continent to the third-biggest.
The minister says we will soon be at number five on the list.
