Gupta brothers arrested in Dubai

The Department of Justice and Correctional Services has confirmed that it has received information from the law enforcement authorities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) that Gupta brothers have been arrested.

Fugitives of justice as labelled by the South African Justice department, Rajesh and Atul Gupta have been arrested in their own country.

Guptas are accused of capturing the South African state, predominantly during President Jacob Zuma’s 9 years of reign. Interestingly, records show that Gupta family also had bonds with other statesmen before Zuma.

Spokesperson for Justice Department, Chrispin Phiri says discussions between various law enforcement agencies in the UAE and SA on how to deal with these fugitives of State Capture are ongoing. Phiri adds that the South African government will continue to co-operate with the UAE.

The arrest of the Guptas comes at the time President Cyril Ramaphosa is under the dark cloud of corruption accusations.
