Gumbi or Mseleku?: Online users debate who they would marry

Social media users engaged in an interesting and heated debate about which polygamist they would prefer to marry, between Musa Mseleku from Uthando Nes’thembu or Lucky SomK Gumbi from SABC 1’s The Gumbis.

GUMBI OR MSELEKU: WHO WOULD YOU MARRY?

It all started with an inquisitive post from @AladyPL on X (formerly Twitter) asking online users who they would marry between Frame 1 (Musa) or Frame 2 (SomK).

The post ignited a flurry of responses, with many picking the “Earthly King”, Musa Mseleku.

If you had no choice but to join a polygamous marriage, which position would you choose?

Those who chose Musa mentioned that he is the better-looking of the two. While others criticised him, pointing out that he lacks leadership skills, as his polygamous family “is very chaotic.”

On the other hand, SomK fell short a bit as many criticised his looks. But those who favoured him mentioned that his polygamous marriages appear much more peaceful and structured, with his three wives generally getting along.

Plus, money ddint seem to be an issue, as his wives lead luxurious and comfortable lives.

THE MSELEKUS

The Mseleku family gained popularity in 2017 through their reality television show, Uthando Nes’thembu.

Musa Mseleku is the patriarch of the family, having four wives, while the status of the fifth, Samke MaKhwela, hangs in the balance.

Musa has over ten children, with the latest addition being Methuli Mseleku, whom he has with MaKhwela. The kids have their own spin-off reality show called Izingane Zes’thembu.

Due to public demand, four new episodes were added as season 9 was originally set to wrap in April 2026.

The family is originally based in rural Umzumbe, KwaZulu-Natal. However, with the new houses Musa bought, they are now scattered across different suburbs in the province.

THE GUMBIS

The Gumbi family were truly adored by their fans even though they enjoyed only two seasons on television.

Their reality show, The Gumbis, garnered over one million viewers in several episodes.

Lucky SomK Gumbi is the head of the Gumbi family, which resides in rural Mtubatuba, KwaZulu-Natal.

SomK has three beautiful wives, Bayede, Nombuso, and Zama, who love showcasing her glamorous lifestyle on social media.

While their family homestead is in Mtubatuba, Bayede and Nombuso also live in affluent suburbs such as Richard’s Bay and Baliito.
