Granwald Scott has found a new home after parting ways with Stellenbosch in the off-season. The veteran midfielder who began his career at Ajax Cape Town has returned to his boyhood club Cape Town Spurs, previously known as Ajax Cape Town.
Scott joins the Motsepe Foundation Championship side as a free agent after being released by Stellies, who opted against extending his contract.
The club confirmed his arrival with a tweet, saying: “Last piece of the puzzle. Our very own midfield maestro, Granwald Scott.”
The 34-year-old made four appearances for Steve Barker’s charges and scored a stunning goal in the iKapa derby against Cape Town City at Danie Craven Stadium to walk away with the bragging rights.
Spurs have been one of the busiest teams in the transfer window, having already signed the highly-rated Orlando Pirates attacker Boitumelo Radiopane on a season-long loan, Leo Thethani, Maurice Finck, Sithembiso Ngobe, Alucius Wagaba, Therlo Moosa, Jayden Petersen, Michael Morton, Nazeer Allie and Clayton Daniels who are going to play a pivotal role of guiding the youngsters as the team looks to intensify their push for automatic promotion to the DStv Premiership next season.
The Urban Warriors had a challenging campaign last season, which saw them finish 14th on the GladAfrica Championship table to marginally survive relegation to the ABC Motsepe League. The Shaun Bartlett-coached team only managed six victories while playing 15 draws and losing nine times in the second tier last season.
The club’s coach Shaun Bartlett has made a promise that he wants to take the club back to elite football. Having played for the club in the 1990s, Bartlett knows exactly how important they are in the history of Cape Town football.
He was part of the well-oiled team that won the National Soccer League in 1995, playing a pivotal role in that campaign together with the likes of Bartlett, Andre Arendse, David Nyathi and Roger Lupiya.
