- A Sunward Park High teacher in Ekurhuleni has been dismissed after allegations of sexual assault and verbal abuse against female pupils.
- The educator, suspended in August, was found guilty at a disciplinary hearing of contravening the Code of Professional Ethics.
- The Department will recommend his permanent removal from the SACE register and provide counselling for affected learners.
A male educator from Sunward Park High School in Ekurhuleni has been dismissed following allegations of sexual assault and verbal abuse against female pupils.
“These incidents are alleged to have taken place on school grounds and outside the premises since 2024, with the most recent incident having allegedly taken place in August 2025,” said spokesperson for the Education Department in Gauteng, Steve Mabona.
The educator was initially suspended in August following a complaint lodged by parents at the school and subsequently dismissed in absentia at a disciplinary hearing on Thursday.
The charges against him included three counts of sexual assault and one count of verbal misconduct. Mabona said the educator’s actions reflected disgraceful, improper and unbecoming behaviour not expected of an educator.
He was found guilty of contravening the Code of Professional Ethics, leading to his dismissal.
The department will formally recommend that his name be removed from the South African Council for Educators (SACE) register, which would revoke his accreditation and bar him from employment in any school nationwide.
The Department also pledged counselling and support services for the affected pupils.
