Gayton McKenzie reaffirms stance on immigrants

Gayton McKenzie says he won’t hesitate to switch off a foreign national’s oxygen to save a South African.

His comments come days after Limpopo Health MEC Phophi Ramathuba chastised a Zimbabwean patient.

She lambasted foreign nationals for overburdening the healthcare system.

The Patriotic Alliance leader and Central Karoo Mayor was eNCA anchor Gareth Edwards’ Tuesday guest.

“I was criticised for saying I will unplug the oxygen, of course I would do as a leader. People in Eldorado Park, Reiger Park everywhere during COVID,” he said.

“If there is a South African, Zimbabwean, and Mozambiquan and there is South African citizen born and bred in South Africa, I would turn off that as a leader.

“We saw the US only taking its citizens in Afghanistan… I never criticised them because that is what the government do.

“So yes I will switch off the oxygen so that the South African can live and even in Zimbabwe I will never criticise their leaders if they turn off oxygen for a South African because we have hospitals here. What is he doing there?”
