Gayton McKenzie reacts to Glen Gabela’s plea for help

Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie has responded to a viral video of former Uzalo star Glen Gabela appealing for financial assistance.

The clip, which circulated widely on X on Wednesday, 13 August 2025, showed the veteran actor speaking candidly about his struggles.

In the video, Gabela admits that asking for help has been difficult, saying: “It’s painful for me, because begging is very difficult for me. I just need help to live a decent life. I don’t need to be rich.”

He explained that his financial troubles began after his contract on the popular soapie ended earlier this year.

The post caught McKenzie’s attention after user @kingmntungwa tagged him alongside other public figures, urging South Africans to support the actor.

The minister replied the following day, writing: “Thanks, I will follow up and revert back today. This is extremely sad.”
