Gavin Hunt’s stance on Thapelo Maseko’s overseas offer

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has had his say on the overseas offer put on the table for talented youngster Thapelo Maseko.

It has emerged that Belgian top division side KV Westerlo have made an offer for the SA junior international.

According to SABC Sport, Maseko’s agent Lance Davids of Football First, revealed that Westerlo are keen to acquire the services of the player.

Maseko has made a huge impression in his second season with SuperSport under the guidance of Hunt.

The talented left winger has featured in 20 matches in all competitions with three goals, an assist, and several Man-of-the-Match accolades.

Westerlo are no stranger to South African players. Former Bafana Bafana international Masilo Modubi was the first player to sign for the club, and more recently, Lyle Foster spent almost two seasons at the club.

But it seems as if Matsatsantsa are not willing to let go of the 19-year-old as yet.

GAVIN HUNT ON THE WESTERLO OFFER

Speaking to the media after the disappointing 0-0 draw against Marumo Gallants on Tuesday evening in Polokwane, SuperSport coach Hunt made an honest admission about the offer for Maseko.

“It’s difficult [to keep him focused] because obviously, they are always [offers] coming to a club like SuperSport. Players are always going to be all over the show so it’s very difficult. I have had this before,” said Hunt.

“But we will try to keep him grounded. He should have been much better tonight [against Gallants]. He had so many opportunities. So he is working hard, and as long as he gives me his all, but it’s difficult,” added Hunt.

THAPELO MASEKO STILL HAS A LOT TO LEARN

Hunt continued: “Maseko still has a lot to learn. I think there is game intelligence that he still needs and that can only get better with more games.

“Show him more at training, get him to similar situations, and try repetitive work, and that applies to any young player. So we just have to keep working with him.”
