Gavin Hunt shares big thoughts on Kaizer Chiefs

Stellenbosch FC stunned Kaizer Chiefs with a 2-1 win in the Nedbank Cup last 32 on Wednesday at the DHL Cape Town Stadium, but coach Gavin Hunt believes Amakhosi can lift the Betway Premiership title.

The Soweto giants sit third on the league log, behind Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, who occupy first and second spots.

Hunt, nevertheless, believes that Kaizer Chiefs’ attacking options could deliver the title in May.

GAVIN HUNT RATES KAIZER CHIEFS

“We play Chiefs in two or three weeks’ time again,” Hunt told SuperSport TV at the DHL Stadium after the game. “So, you know, they’ll certainly want to get one over us, you know? I mean they can win the league this year, really.

“They could, they’ve got a good squad of players, hey. They’ve got a good team, you know? A lot of pace. They’ve got so much creativity in the final third,” the former Amakhosi mentor said in reference to players like Glody Lilepo, Mduduzi Shabalala, Mfundo Vilakazi and Asanele Velebayi.

QUESTION MARKS OVER GOAL-SCORING

While Kaizer Chiefs’ defence has stood out, the goals haven’t been flowing. The Glamour Boys have found the net just 15 times in 15 Betway Premiership games.

Most results include a series of 1–0 wins over Marumo Gallants and Golden Arrows. Even on the continental stage, the story is the same: back-to-back 1–0s win over ZESCO United in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage kept the continental dream alive.

Looking ahead, the month of February will roll out four more matches, including the Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates.

For now, the immediate focus is the visit of Al-Masry’s visit to the CAF Confederation Cup at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.

DO YOU AGREE WITH GAVIN HUNT ON KAIZER CHIEFS POSSIBLY WINNING THE BETWAY PREMIERSHIP IN MAY?
