- Gauteng faces a weekend of variable cloud cover and a 30% chance of afternoon thundershowers.
- Pretoria is set to reach a high of 30°C on Saturday before drying out for a clear Sunday.
- Johannesburg expects persistent evening rain on both days with maximum temperatures of 28°C.
Gauteng residents should prepare for a damp weekend as the South African Weather Service (Saws) predicts a combination of overcast skies and afternoon thundershowers across the region.
While mornings may start relatively clear, both Pretoria and Johannesburg are expected to see a shift toward stormy conditions by the second half of Saturday.
Saturday in Pretoria begins with cloudy conditions and temperatures hovering around 22°C. However, by the afternoon, thundershowers are expected to develop as the mercury peaks at 27°C.
While the day carries a 30% chance of rain, Sunday looks significantly drier; despite a humid start, the probability of precipitation drops to zero, with a maximum temperature of 29°C under mostly clear skies.
Johannesburg faces a more consistent threat of rain throughout the weekend. Saturday follows a similar pattern to Pretoria, with morning clouds giving way to afternoon and evening thundershowers and a high of 25°C.
Unlike the capital, Johannesburg’s reprieve on Sunday will be short-lived; although the morning starts clear, thundershowers are forecast to return by Sunday evening, with temperatures reaching a maximum of 26°C.
