  • Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi launched the “Tswa Daar” campaign in Tembisa to actively combat widespread substance and alcohol abuse across the province.
  • The multi-departmental initiative aims to save lives and break the cycle of addiction, offering immediate on-site services including rehab assessments and job profiling.
  • The launch saw approximately 650 drug addicts voluntarily entering the road to recovery by being sent to rehabilitation centres today.

The Gauteng provincial government today launched a significant new initiative, the “Tswa Daar” campaign, aimed at tackling pervasive substance and alcohol abuse across its communities.

Premier Panyaza Lesufi officially launched the campaign at the Mehlareng Stadium in Tembisa. The initiative is described as a comprehensive effort to “save lives, restore dignity and build a healthier, safer Gauteng.”

Premier Lesufi announced that approximately 650 individuals battling addiction had voluntarily agreed to be screened and were being sent to rehabilitation centres today as the campaign kicked off. He stressed the government’s resolve to stop drug cartels from “ruining the future of children.”

The launch included the departments of Education, Social Development, and Human Settlements, providing a multi-faceted approach.

According to provincial government spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga, a range of services were immediately available on-site, including medical assessments, applications for rehabilitation admission, outpatient treatment, and profiling for job and training opportunities aimed at assisting young people.
