DStv Premiership side Marumo Gallants remains confident that they will survive the chop at the end of the season despite being one of the busiest teams.
With limited resources, Gallants are busy competing at the CAF Confederations Cup where they are currently at the summit in Group A.
But domestically, they have fallen behind in terms of log position. Gallants sit at the bottom of the log with 19 points, with 22 matches to go.
BUSY SCHEDULE TAKING ITS TOLL ON THE CLUB
They are scheduled to play only two matches in March due to their traveling in the continent.
“Definitely, that has taken its toll on players with the reasons that we might have given about the travelling and everything,” said assistant coach Raymond Mdaka.
Marumo Gallants players comfort each other
“But we do sit down as the technical team and look at the whole situation we are in now. We look at how we are playing, we look at other teams.
“We have a few number of games that we are confident that we will be able to make it to save the team from relegation.”
Raymond Mdaka went on to explain why Gallants won’t prioritise the league, where they are in danger of being relegated.
“Like many journalists have asked, why can’t we prioritise the league, it’s not an easy thing. We can prioritise and lose the very same thing that we prioritised because you never know. We rely on the confidence, the belief that we have as a club,” explained Mdaka.
BALANCING THE ABNORMAL SITUATION
“So, we just felt like let’s give it a go, we just went to an extent, if you saw our Nedbank Cup, the team that we played was consisting of a lot of players who have never played. So that we can see how we can balance the situation.
“With the team that we have, we are confident. We are still left with one trip to Libya which will come after our Cape Town City game and then from there I think there is a bit of space.
“We are just hoping that we get a few points before we get back to Libya. But we are totally confident that we will get out of the current situation.”
