Gallants Target Away Win Over Al Ahli

Marumo Gallants assistant coach Raymond Mdaka says they are targeting an away goal against Libyan giants Al Ahli for their CAF Confederation Cup 1st leg playoff tie.

Gallants face off in a major challenge against last season’s semi-finalists who were ousted by Orlando Pirates for a place in the final.

Having dropped out of the CAF Champions League play-off, they will now be looking to appease their passionate fan base with a group stage qualification.

With Gallants unable to call upon their head coach Dan Malesela due to the CAF Licencing regulations, Mdaka will be in charge and he appeared calm ahead of the tie in Benghazi.

“It’s quite a difficult game, more especially playing away [in Libya], for all we need is just for us to do what we can do best,” he said ahead of the game.

“If we can get an away goal it would alleviate a lot of challenges when we play at home – but we’ll approach the game the same way we do any other kind of game.”

Mdaka went on to state there’s been no pre-match shenanigans, that have somewhat become synonymous with the competition, and the players are fully focused on the task at hand in the final hurdle before the group stages. Gallants fell at the same stage last season after their 1-0 aggregate defeat at the hands of TP Mazembe.

“No challenges at all [during preperarions], the boys, we’ve prepared them mentally, physically like for any other challenge we’ve met, so we don’t foresee any other kinds of challenges, we’ll look into it when we get into the game.”

Gallants face off against Fathi Jabal’s outfit this evening at the Martyrs of February Stadium (19h00).
