Gallants Players Given Deadline To Decide Future

Relegated Marumo Gallants have given their players a deadline until 23 June to decide their future ahead of their 2023/24 Motsepe Foundation Championship season.

Gallants had mixed emotions this season, after reaching the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup and getting knocked out by Mamelodi Sundowns, they made history in CAF Confederations Cup by getting into the semi-final but lost 4-1 on aggregate to Tanzanian giants Young Africans.

Bahlabane Ba Ntwa had some ups and downs on and off the field. At one stage Gallants had two of their members “held hostage” for more than two weeks in Libya after they couldn’t return back home due to financial issues.

The negative climax of their campaign was suffering relegation to the second tier of South African football on the last day of the 2022/23 campaign after losing 2-0 to Swallows FC.

Gallants went into the game needing only a draw to save themselves but they had run out of steam.

Players have now been given some time to think ahead of the 2023/24 season, iDiski Times has learnt.

All players with contracts set to expire at the end of June are given until 23 June to decide, if they will renew or not. Meanwhile, incumbent coach Dylan Kerr has told iDiski Times that he won’t continue at the club and will travel back to England before deciding on his next move.

Several of their players have attracted interest, with Ranga Chivaviro linked with Young Africans, Richards Bay and Kaizer Chiefs, while Lesiba Nku is on the radar of Stellenbosch and SuperSport, and Lucky Mohomi is said to be heading to Richards Bay next season.

Meanwhile, Celimpilo Ngema had already put pen to paper on a pre-contract with AmaZulu in January already, as reported by iDiski Times.
