Gallants Make Statement On FIFA Ban

The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) ban on Limpopo- based Marumo Gallants FC has been officially lifted.

The ban on registering new players was imposed on the club following a dispute related to Venezuelan player Gustavo Paez.

The club had failed to compensate the striker for prematurely terminating his contract in 2020, shortly after he had signed with Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila Football Club (TTM FC), which later became the current Marumo Gallants FC. Following the failure to compensate Paez, Marumo FC was handed a 3-year transfer ban on registering new players.

Marumo Gallants FC appealed the ban, which was inherited from the former TTM FC. After lengthy discussions, Marumo Gallants and Paez reached a settlement discussion, resulting in the lifting of the ban, which was officially confirmed in a letter to the club issued by FIFA this week.

Commenting on the issue, Marumo Gallants FC Chairman, Abram Sello stated, “We are relieved that the matter has been amicably resolved and that we will be able to plan for the next season”.

The Gallants are the current defending champions of the Nedbank Cup 2021/22. Having made it through to the final round of this year’s competition, the Gallants will take on recently crowned DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns at the Cup finals (taking place in Rustenburg on 28 May 2022) to defend their title.
