TS Galaxy have made their first signing of this January transfer window, capturing Mpho Mathekgane who was playing in Zambia.

Mathekgane, who is an attacking midfielder, was playing for Forest Rangers in Zambian Premier League.

He initially joined Buildcon FC in Zambia after leaving TS Sporting, before hopping to Ndola rivals Forest Rangers.

He was the runners-up to the league in Zambia in the 2018/19 season with Rangers, with Nkana winning the league then.

“We have concluded the signing of young Mpho Mathekgane. He was playing in Zambia for the past three seasons,” said Galaxy president Tim Sukazi after his club drew with Royal AM at Chatsworth Stadium on Tuesday.

“He has now joined us. We hope that he will adapt quicker, he’s got the talent and we will see.”

With the window in full swing after it was officially opened on New Year’s day in the PSL, Sukazi said they are not done in the market as he targets the top eight spot.

“We are also reinforcing upfront. You saw today we were dependent on one striker, (Djakaridja) Traore,” said Sukazi.

“He came in match number eight of the season and started five games and scored three and gave us two assists, I think that is a good mark.

“But today he was kicked and hell-bent by Maritzburg United (in the club’s previous match), the likes of Alfred Ndengane, the big boys, the big trucks – they just kicked him inside out.

“They couldn’t survive and he was not available today against (Royal AM) and the chances that we created, had he been here, I’m sure he would have scored five goals.”

Traore, who scored his first goal for the club in the controversial match against Kaizer Chiefs in October that left Sukazi and his coach Sead Ramovic livid, did not feature in the game against Royal AM due to the injury because he was ” kicked” as Sukazi said and was only sit to be in the stands.

However, he scored twice in the Maritzburg game as Galaxy won 2-1 at Harry Gwala Stadium in what was a comeback victory on Friday in the first game for coach Fadlu Davids.

The Ivory Coast international, in fact, scored all three goals in that match. The goal scored by Maritzburg was credited to him as his own goal instead of Wayde Jooste.
