  • A coal truck overturned on the N12 East in Glenanda, causing a full road closure.
  • Traffic is being diverted at the Kliprivier Drive off-ramp while clean-up operations continue.
  • JMPD urges motorists to use alternative routes and expect major delays.

The N12 East Freeway in Glenanda is temporarily closed due to a major incident involving a coal truck that lost control just after the Kliprivier off-ramp.

Motorists are advised to approach the area with caution or, better yet, use alternative routes.

Due to the accident, the N12 Eastbound is completely closed off, and traffic is being diverted off the freeway at the Kliprivier Drive off-ramp.

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Department (JMPD) says the closure is indefinite while recovery operations and extensive clean-up of the coal spillage are underway.

Significant traffic congestion is anticipated in the immediate vicinity and surrounding feeder routes.

“Motorists are advised to exercise patience and to use alternative routes such as the M1 or Xavier Street,” said JMPD’s spokesperson Xolani Fihla.

JMPD officers are on the scene managing the diversion and traffic flow.
