Cedric Kaze’s experience at Barcelona’s football academy sets him apart from the rest of Africa’s top coaches.
Eight years ago, the Burundian’s journey led him from Canada to the home of the Spanish giants. Now, he is closely linked to a move to Kaizer Chiefs.
Following Fernando da Cruz’s departure, Unplayable reported that Kaze is a frontrunner to join the Soweto giants as their next assistant manager.
He previously worked with coach Nasreddine Nabi at Young Africans and certainly appreciates the manager’s playing style.
“It’s entertaining football, and he wants his players to take risks, especially offensively,” Kaze told FarPost.
Kaze’s fluency in French, Kirundi, Kiswahili, English, German, and Spanish provided Nabi with invaluable help. And his experience at Barcelona eight years ago could see him bringing Tiki Taka football to South Africa.
“When I was in Canada, the chance to coach at the Barca academies arose, Kaze said. “This immersed me in Barca’s philosophy – their training, values, and what it takes to be a coach in their ‘family’.
“It was exhilarating, but I felt drawn to senior football after two and a half years. The youth system is valuable, but my passion lies in the high-pressure coaching environment at the top level.”
