Free State-born Coach Morena Ramoreboli Wins Historic League Title

Morena Ramoreboli, a coach born in Free State, has achieved a significant milestone in his coaching career by winning the Botswana Premier League title with Jwaneng Galaxy F.C. on Wednesday. This victory marks the first club title of Ramoreboli’s coaching career.

Ramoreboli and his team secured the league title with one game remaining after defeating Holy Ghost 2-0 on Wednesday. This win also guaranteed their return to the CAF Champions League. Despite a 1-0 victory by defending champions Gaborone United over BDF XI, it was not enough to catch up to the South African tactician and his team. After the penultimate round of games, Ramoreboli’s team sits five points ahead of second place.

The 42-year-old coach first gained recognition in South Africa a decade ago when he led Maluti FET College to success in the Nedbank Cup.

Morena Ramoreboli joined Jwaneng Galaxy F.C. in September 2021 after successfully leading Bafana Bafana to the COSAFA Cup as a caretaker coach. Since joining Jwaneng, Ramoreboli has continued to make impressive progress.

In 2021, he led the team to their first-ever qualification for the CAF Champions League group stage. This achievement slightly impacted their league performance, as they finished in third place last season.

However, the team bounced back and went unbeaten through the first half of the 2022/23 campaign. With only two losses throughout the season, they secured the club’s second Botswana Premier League title after winning in 2019/20.

Ramoreboli is not the only South African who played a role in this title-winning campaign. Lebo Kholoane, a former analyst for Bloemfontein Celtic, also works for the club.
