As the season is set to resume later this month, AmaZulu have offloaded Sibusiso Magaqa, Matarr Ceesay, Butho Ncube and Samkelo Mgwazela.

Maqaga and Mgwazela have already been seen in Royal AM’s gear as the KwaZulu-Natal club is also back in training for the resumption of the season.

With Ceesay and Ncube it is not clear what direction they will take to further their careers, whether they will go back home to Gambia and Zimbabwe respectively or look for opportunities in South Africa.

Ncube joined Usuthu ahead of the 2016/17 season, but he did not play a single match last term, as he was sent back home after the club did not register him.

In fact, Usuthu struggled to get his registration sorted out as they were looking at registering him as a local player, having been in this country for over five years to qualify for the PRP (permanent residence permit).

But the club has other ideas now as they have let him go, with the player last kicking the ball with Usuthu was against Maritzburg United in the last game of the 2020/21 season under coach Benni McCarthy.

Usuthu were playing in that game as they were already assured of finishing second in the DStv Premiership, with McCarthy giving other players game-time such as also Siphiwe Tshabalala and Tsepo Masilela.

Ceesay, who joined the club at the beginning of the 2021/22 season, has only featured in one game for Usuthu this campaign, a 2-1 shock loss against Chippa United that resulted in the departure of Brandon Truter.

The Gambian international, who was also troubled by injuries, in total featured in just 15 matches in all competitions in almost two seasons with the club.

Meanwhile, Usuthu are set to decide on the future of its captain Makhehleni Makhaula. The 33-year-old combative midfielder will see his contract expire at the end of the season. He joined them at the beginning of the 2020/21 season from Highlands Park.

Usuthu are yet to indicate whether they will keep the former Free State Stars midfielder beyond this season, as he has been a crucial part of the Usuthu’s success of late.

Meanwhile, Phumlani Dube, who was the head of communication for Usuthu, has told iDiski Times that he has left the club. He arrived when president Sandile Zungu bought the club’s status in 2020.
