A number of Orlando Pirates players have put their hands up for selection in Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana FIFA World Cup 2026 squad.

The Buccaneers are currently top of the Betway Premiership, thanks in no small part to their recent 3-0 Soweto derby win over rivals Kaizer Chiefs.

ORLANDO PIRATES STARS STAKE CLAIMS

En route to destroying Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium, a couple of Orlando Pirates players made it clear that they are viable options and in form with the FIFA World Cup fast approaching.

The Soweto derby is one of the most high pressure matches, with bragging rights, history, culture and tradition at stake in front of 90 000+ fans.

So, under that pressure, these Orlando Pirates stars showed that they can handle it by flourishing when the heat was on.

KAMOGELO SEBELEBELE MAKES BROOS TAKE NOTE

Sebelebele is one of the fastest rising and most promising young talents in the PSL right now.

In his first Soweto derby, he rose to the occasion and was simply brilliant.

Sebelebele assisted in the opening goal and was a constant threat down the right hand side.

There is no doubt that after that showing, Broos will strongly consider bringing him to the United States, Mexico and Canada for football’s greatest showpiece.

Relebohile MOFOKENG MAGIC CONTINUES TO SPARKLE FOR PIRATES

Mofokeng was named PSL Player of the Month after a scintillating February in the Betway Premiership.

He has silenced those critics who doubted him after the recent Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

He is no doubt back to his best and he showed his skill, class and composure for Orlando Pirates against Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto derby.

Handed the No 10 role, he stepped up to the plate and was threatening on attack all day.

THALENTE MBATHA AND LEBONE SEEMA TO CAUSE BROOS A COUPLE OF SELECTION HEADACHES

Mbatha returned to action after missing several weeks due to injury.

Furthermore, he did so in fine style, controlling the midfield and making several threatening runs on attack.

Meanwhile, Seema continues to grow with each match at the heart of defence.

He dominated the aerial space, remained disciplined and composed at the back. He also played some beautiful razor-sharp passes from the back to his midfielders and attackers on the counter.
