  • A Toyota Avanza overturned on the N12 near Middelburg, killing four passengers on Saturday afternoon.
  • Three others were injured, with one in a critical condition.
  • Police are investigating the cause, suspecting reckless driving may have contributed to the crash.

Four people were killed on Saturday afternoon, 25 October 2025, after a Toyota Avanza they were travelling in lost control.

The car reportedly overturned on the N12 between Middelburg and Loskop Dam.

Mpumalanga Community Safety spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi, says the four passengers consisted of three females and one male child, who unfortunately all died at the scene.

“One person was seriously injured, while two more occupants, including the driver, escaped with slight injuries,” said Mmusi.

The cause of the accident is now the subject of an investigation; however, reckless and negligent driving cannot be ruled out.

The injured were all rushed to nearby medical facilities for further treatment.
