Four Dangerous Prisoner Have Escaped From Rooigrond Correctional Facility
A manhunt has been launched by the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) for the four dangerous prisoners who escaped from the Rooigrond Correctional Facility on Tuesday.
The circumstances surrounding the escape, according to spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo, will be revealed once investigations are completed. “Investigations will be instituted, and the circumstances relating to the escape will be revealed once investigations have been concluded,” Nxumalo said.
The inmates are: Zacharia Francisco Nyalimate (Mozambican) was convicted for housebreaking and murder. He is serving 27 years.
Alfred Gwambe (Mozambican) was found guilty of housebreaking, theft, and possessing a stolen vehicle. He is currently serving a sentence of 65 years in prison. Siyabonga Sithole (South African) was sentenced to life in prison for rape, theft, and housebreaking.
South African Edward Madiba was convicted of robbery with a firearm and is currently serving a 15-year sentence. Nxumalo stated that the Department is appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the re-arrest of these four.

“They are considered dangerous, and if spotted, information should be shared with the nearest Police Station.”
Last year, video emerged of a police officer going to get a cool drink when the prisoners he was transporting overpowered him and escaped. According to a Facebook post by AfriForum Pietersburg, the police officer stopped at the Eerstegoud Trading Store last Wednesday, 21 July 2021, to buy cooldrinks for the prisoners he was transporting.
The officer is seen leaving the police vehicle in the video, and when he returns with the 2litre cooldrink and opens the back door of the van, he is overpowered.
