Foster Sets Bafana Target, Reveals How Haaland Impressed Him

Bafana Bafana striker Lyle Foster said he’s targeting to become the main man in the national team now and revealed what he feels he can learn from Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland.

Foster, 22 returned to South Africa for the first time since his record transfer from KVC Westerlo to Burnley which could reach as high as €11-million.

Having bagged his first goal in his last appearance for the national team, the 2-1 defeat to Morocco in the Group K opener, a lot has transpired in his club career and he admits he’s now looking to cement his place to lead the line for his nation.

“I’d be lying if I said no, that’s the position I wanted since [I was] a kid and I definitely want to cement my position now as the number one striker for South Africa,” he said when asked by iDiski Times upon arriving at their first training session at FNB Stadium.

“I’m looking to score a few goals here while I’m here on camp, work hard and it’s important to stay focus for these two games [against Liberia].

The former Orlando Pirates man came up against Manchester City in the match prior to his return to Mzansi in their FA Cup quarter-final and they were on the wrong end of a 6-0 thumping which he admitted was a huge learning curve.

He stated in the pre-match press conference that bagging his first goal for the Clarets before the break was a boost of confidence and the trip to the Etihad is, in his opinion, the toughest place to go to in the world right now which gave him a valuable lesson.

“Score goals, that’s all I see him do, his movement, just the way he positions himself it’s crazy, every rebound comes to him and some people might think it’s luck but if he does it so often it has to be intentional,” Foster said about the towering striker.

“It all has to do with his movement so definitely his movement and scoring goals is something I can learn.”
