Former Polokwane City striker Sphesihle Nzimande was stabbed three times and is currently recovering following a stay in hospital iDiski Times has learned.

The 30-year-old played for Golden Arrows, Polokwane City, Royal Eagles, AmaZulu, Real Kings and Jomo Cosmos.

H s made 48 DStv Premiership appearances, scoring eight goals but has been without a club since 2018.

Sadly, though, he was stabbed in Port Shepstone during an unprovoked altercation with a drunk member of the community recently.

“I was home in KZN just chilling with the guys as usual after a practice match as we always do to chill together after game,” Nzimande told iDiski Times journalist Sinethemba Makonco.

“Then a man from our area just came to us drunk, he teased us and he was with me telling me since I bacame famous and been on TV I’ve changed because of money and I asked him how because I’m always at eKasi with the guys?

“He was holding a bottle of beer calling me names and he included my mom’s name, that’s where it all started – you talk bad about my mom and in front of friends, that’s bad.

“He was insulting me, calling me names. He came closer tying to stab me but he got me on my shoulder that time I look at my my shoulder, he did it again on my neck and few seconds later I told my friend that ‘hey bro I’m dieing, I can’t feel myself’ and there was blood all over my clothes.

“That’s when I last saw my friends and him but they said they took me to a near Hospital at Mthwalume area but it was serious they didn’t manage to help me. The Mthwalume hospital transferred me to Port Shepstone Hospital in that time they say I wasn’t breathing and talking for almost 45 minutes.

“It was Saturday but I woke up on Monday, that’s when I felt the pain and everything. Since then I was in Hospital, I just came back on Friday.

“But I’m recovering well even though I can’t believe that we do things like playing soccer just to stay away from bad thinsg but other people around us think bad things for us. But I’ve learnt that not everyone likes you and appreciate your doings.

“At home, we are Christians and my mom she is not someone who talk too much or who is always with neighbours. All she said: “Thanks God, my son, he’s alive and I won’t go to open a case. God will deal with him.”
