Former Orlando Pirates winger retires from football

Former Orlando Pirates journeyman Mark Mayambela has decided to call it quits and hang up his boots at the age of 34.

The winger played for a number of clubs in Mzansi in his 15-year career, namely Bloemfontein Celtic, Orlando Pirates, Chippa United, SuperSport United, Cape Town City FC, Ajax Cape Town and his most recent and final club, Cape Umoya United.

He represented Chippa United on 55 occasions, Bloemfontein Celtic (49), Orlando Pirates (33), Ajax Cape Town (24), Cape Town City FC (7) and SuperSport United (4).

‘Prof’ as he was known during hi splaying days, also spent a spell at Swedish side Djurgardens IF during the 2014/15 season where he played 19 matches in all competitions.

MARK MAYAMBELA WON’T BE LOST TO FOOTBALL

Despite calling time on his career, Mark Mayambela ‘won’t be lost to football’ as he is preparing for life as a coach having already begun his coaching qualifications.

He reportedly told KickoffI am done playing. I am going to make an official announcement very soon as I am still trying to sort out a few things.

“Yes, I have retired but I won’t be lost to football.”
