South African actress Kim Engelbrecht has been in the acting and showbiz industry since 1994 when she was a teenager. She has made a name for herself on both the local and international scenes with her acting talent. Her local and International acting career
Kim Engelbrecht is famously known on South African screens for her role in Isidingo of Lolly, which made her a household name. After the show ended, she continued with her acting career doing movies mainly in movies.
During the fourth season of The Flash, an American CW hit series, Kim Engelbrecht landed the role of playing Marlize DeVoe. She made headlines worldwide, and South Africans were proud that one of their own was getting recognition in International productions. Currently, she is part of the cast of Raised by Wolves on HBO, playing the role of Demica.
Kim Engelbrecht gets nominated for an Emmy Award
M Net’s thriller series Reyka has gotten two nods from the Emmy awards. One is for the series and the other for their lead actress. Kim Engelbrecht, who plays Reyka, has been nominated for the Best Performance by an actress category. Engelbrecht has to compete against Leticia Colin from Brazil, the UK’s Celine Buckens and France’s Lou De Laage for the Award. The show is competing for the Best Drama Series which will compete against Narcos: Mexico, Lupin and Vigil.
The series follows the life of, Reyka, who was kidnapped as a child and grows older, haunted by her past. She then becomes a criminal profiler in KZN where she tries to help hunt down a serial killer. The killer had been committing murders in the fields of KZN. This she does while trying to raise a child and have an everyday normal family life on the side. She helps the police in solving mysteries in the area.
Engelbrecht’s recent SAFTA win
The actress recently won a SAFTA recently for her role in the same hit series. Reyka becomes the third drama series to be nominated for an Emmy after Sokhulu and Partners in 2009 and Home affairs in 2008. Engelbrecht also becomes the 5th African actress to receive an Emmy nomination after Thuso Mbedu, Lerato Mvelase, Brenda Ngxoli and Menna Shalabi.
