Former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns striker Leonardo Castro is on a three-match scoring streak in the United States for his new club Greenville Triumph.

Castro, 34, left Amakhosi as part of their clear out at the end of last season and had initially been without a club for over eight months.

But in March, he secured himself a move to Greenville in the US League One (third tier). He has since scored four goals and set up two more in 11 appearances and is currently on a three-match scoring streak for his new club.

Castro scored in a 2-1 defeat to Knoxville on 21 May, in a 3-3 draw with Union Omaha on 25 May and also in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Tormenta.

“We created a great chance, playing through the right side,” he told his new club’s website.

“Gavi and I know each other well and I know what kind of ball he’s going to deliver, so I was able to set myself up to be in the box there and strike.

“It was a great chance and when it comes together like that, it’s nice.”

The Colombian striker’s first goal came in a 2-1 defeat to Lexington SC on 30 April.

Castro’s new side Greenville are currently sitting in eighth place after collecting 12 points in their first 11 games in the League One.
