Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Teenage Hadebe was part of the Houston Dynamo side that downed Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami to the United States Open Cup title.

Hadebe, 28, who played for Chiefs between 2017 and 2019 after a move from his homeland Chicken Inn has established himself as a key player for the MLS side.

Having initially left Chiefs for Turkish Superlig side Yeni Malatyaspor, Hadebe was picked up by the American club two years later as a designated player in a deal worth around R30m.

And after two seasons, the Zimbabwe international defender now lifted his first trophy with the club as they beat Inter Miami 2-1 in the final of the US Open Cup.

It proved to be a real upset as Messi has been an integral part of Miami since his arrival from Paris Saint-Germain as he fired them to the inaugural League’s Cup title.

However, his absence was felt as a scar tissue injury ruled him out which Dynamo took full advantage of to secure their fourth domestic cup in the club’s history.
