Al Faisaly, the side of former Kaizer Chiefs coach Giovanni Solinas, scored two late goals to dent the title hopes of Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahli Saudi.
Al Ahli looked like they were going to pick up their 12th win over the last 14 games but dropped two points in a 2-2 with Faisaly.
Mosimane’s men race into the lead thanks to two penalties that were converted by Ryad Boudebouz, who opened the scoring in the 44th minute and added the second in the 81st.
Al Faisaly, though, scored two late goals in the 85th and 87th minute to salvage a draw.
Al Ahli now sit on 59 points at the top of the log, three ahead of second-placed Al Akhdood, who have a game in hand and could reclaim the top spot thanks to the better goal difference.
Mosimane’s side, though, remained 15 points ahead of Al Faisaly in the non-promotion spot – needing two more wins to secure the club’s return to the first tier.
Overall, Mosimane has picked up 14 wins, seven draws and just two defeats since taking charge of Al Ahli.
It was the fourth meeting between Solinas, who recently took over at Al Faisaly, and Mosimane, with the latter winning two, while two clashes ended in a draw.
