Former Arsenal player Billy Vigar has passed away at the age of 21.

Vigar sustained a severe brain injury during a football match for his club, Chichester City, on Saturday, 20 September 2025.

He was placed in an induced coma and underwent surgery, but the injury proved too severe. His death was confirmed by his family and his club on Thursday, 25 September 2025.

Tributes have poured in from Arsenal, Derby County, and the wider football community.

Arsenal FC released a statement paying tribute to the young forward:

“Everyone at Arsenal Football Club is deeply sorry to hear of the tragic passing of Chichester City forward and former Arsenal academy player, Billy Vigar. Our deepest condolences go out to the Vigar family and his many friends at this extremely difficult time.”

Vigar joined Arsenal’s academy on schoolboy terms at the age of 14 after being scouted at his hometown club, Hove Rivervale FC. He quickly excelled as a striker at Hale End, scoring 17 goals in his debut season.

His impressive performances earned him a scholarship, and he joined the club full-time for the 2020/21 season.
