AmaZulu coach Romain Folz says it doesn’t give him sleepless nights that he’s only picked up one win in the DStv Premiership this season so far and wants to end Usuthu’s horrible record against Kaizer Chiefs.
Folz, since he arrived in the PSL, has only beaten Stellenbosch with AmaZulu back in October.
Ever since, Usuthu have lost twice – the MTN8 final against Orlando Pirates and last weekend’s KZN derby against Royal AM, while drawing once with Sekhukhune United, which was already his fifth draw since taking charge of AmaZulu.
Folz also drew all five matches in charge at Gallants, before the club fired him and then got the Usuthu post to replace Brandon Truter.
On Friday, AmaZulu face Kaizer Chiefs, with Folz insisting his side are targeting to keep the three points at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
“No [it doesn’t make me sleep less] and no, I’m not worried,” said Folz as his side face Chiefs later today.
“We need to win, no matter the different form of the two teams. We have a game in front of us and they will try to win as much as we want to win, so it will be a matter of who is the best team on the day and we will try to be that team.
“We need points no matter the context of the game. We need points and that is the only thing that matters for us at this point.”
This will be the fourth meeting between the two sides this season already, with all matches having ended in score draws this season.
They played to a goalless draw in the reverse fixture before meeting in a double header in the MTN8 semi-final, where they drew 1-1 at Chiefs in the first leg of the Wafa Wafa Cup at FNB Stadium, before AmaZulu reached the final by blanking Chiefs to another goalless draw in Durban.
In fact, AmaZulu have not lost to Chiefs in the last six matches, since losing to them this time in 2021, with their last five competitive clashes ending in a draw.
However, AmaZulu are searching their first league win over Chiefs in Durban since Jabu Mnguni, Dylan Pillay and Simon Magagula scored as they won 3-2, with Thabang Lebese and Siyabong Nomvete scoring for Chiefs on 24 March 1999.

That is 24 years of wait for Usuthu to pick up a win over their illustrious rivals.
